Recently, my party of four attended the Taste restaurant at the Leicester student catering college, near the Tigers stadium.
You may be aware that this is an establishment set up to train our future chefs, waiters and managers to a silver service quality.
Half-way through our second course, the fire alarm sounded and the building had to be emptied.
The staff were magnificent in ensuring that all guests were shown the way out, regardless of their own personal safety.
After 20 minutes the building was declared safe and we returned.
It was apparent that the trainees had raced back to the tables and cleared them and, only minutes later, we were being served with fresh replacement meals – which were magnificent.
Bearing in mind that about 30 diners were present, it was a major achievement.
I am sure that it caused a major flap to them, but we were totally unaware of any difficulties, such was the professionalism shown.
What a lesson in how to cope under stress!
May I just thank every member of Taste for a wonderful meal, service and attention to detail in demonstrating the customer is king.
